“Don’t pray when you feel like it. Have an appointment
with the Lord and keep it.” – Corrie Ten Boom
Not everyone is ADHD but to some extent we kind of are. We sit in our quiet place, during our quiet time and a list of thousand things bombard our head. There are plenty of important things in your life, the key is priorities.
Yes, your work, your family, your friends, your situations, but God should be first on that list and that can be very hard for some to truly commit to.
Hindrances to prayer happens to everyone, but you can learn to control and improve your life. Satan has a hay day with us, trying to mess our schedule up so we think we don’t have time to pray. Therefore, many of our prayers will go unanswered simply because we don’t ask.
When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures. James 4:3
Sometimes you do get to pray but there was something off that inhibits, or blocks, your prayer from being answered. What are some hindrances to prayer?
And I will do whatever You ask in my name, so that the Father may
be glorified in the Son. John 14:13
13 Hindrances To Prayer
Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. Colossians 3:13
Unforgiveness is a huge part where a lot of people fail to see the importance. There is no room for unforgiveness in heaven so we need to take care of that while we are here on earth. The only way to do that is to give ourselves to God.
Submit yourselves to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. James 4:7
How to deal with trouble
Trouble is a part of life. It comes often unexpected but we can not allow that to stop us from spending time with our Creator. An excellent way to deal with trouble is to keep on praying. Pray through any circumstance. We cannot let our feelings get in the way of our prayers.
Happy, sad, good days, or bad we need to remain consistent with our praying.
Make a habit by having your quiet time with God the same time everyday. After awhile it will be a routine thing. Muscle memory will have you rolling out of bed and onto your knees as soon as the alarm sounds.
This set time is like an appointment and its very important you keep your appointments. Some even write it in their planner just as added awareness or even a reminder on the days you may have forgot.
Enjoy your fellowship time with Him and you will get to know God more and more.
Noises, people, phone calls, hungy, tired, angry and the list goes on and on…. Just like everything in life you have to keep practicing, you will get better at it and enjoy the experience. Just don’t quit.Keep a pure heart and you will see that your special times with God will get longer and more passionate.
One great habit to do before a time of prayer, is also a great habit in life. Its called a Brain Dump. A Brain Dump is a list you create of to do’s and things to remember to clear your mind. It’s often suggested to do this before bed to ease your mind.
Try a Brain Dump before your next quiet time, it may be just what you needed to focus longer to get through you quiet time.
